THE BON CHILDREN FOUNDATION is a non-profit corporation founded in Quebec in 2006 under the Companies Act, Part III. It is a humanitarian non-governmental organization founded by Latri Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche, his friends and students. The Foundation was recognized as a charity organization in 2009.
OUR OBJECTIVES are to support the Bön culture by financially supporting children and young adults of the Bön community who live as refugees in northern India and in Quebec, and to raise Quebecers’ awareness to the needs and poverty of Bön children and young adults worldwide, through public workshops and conferences. The Foundation is staffed exclusively of volunteers. It does not withhold any funds, the entirety of donations are given to the Bön Children’s Home.
WHO ARE THE BON CHILDREN ? They are the descendants of Bön Tibetans qho were forced into exile by the Chinese occupation of Tibet. These children are our future; and if we wish to preserve our unique Tibetan tradition and culture, they need a proper learning environment. This will be possible through your generosity and compassion to B.C.H., each and every cent will be used for the sole purpose of children’s education and their needs. – Latri Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche, President – Director – Founder of B.C.H., Dolanji
SPONSORSHIP & SUPPORT : Contribute to the preservation of a remarkable ancient spiritual tradition, part of humanity’s world heritage. Thanks to your donations, the Bon Children’s Home children will have the opportunity to receive an education, while learning about their own tradition. The Bön Children Foundation does not take any fees and keeps no portion of the donations; its staff is entirely volunteer-based.
One time donation: You can make a single donation in the amount of your choice to help the Bön Children’s Home fill any of its special needs.
Sponsorship program: You can support the education of a child at the primary, secondary or higher levels. In order to meet the needs of the children living at the BCH, it is essential that each child receives help from a sponsor. Unfortunately, at the present time many children still don’t have a sponsor and there isn’t sufficient funding. Each child has only one sponsor and the relationship between him or her and the sponsor is a privileged one. The money sent through sponsorship is used as follows : food 55.5%, building maintenance and repair 12.7%, wages 8.7%, clothing 8.3%, medical care 6.2%, school supplies 4.4%, hygiene products 4.2%. The sponsor agrees to the sponsorship of a child for a minimum of one year. If a sponsor wishes to discontinue his commitment, the Bön Children Foundation requests three months advance notice, in order to find a new sponsor for the child. You may also join one or several friends to share sponsorship. Sponsors can directly send letters, photos or school supplies to the children. The children personally answer their mail.
Post-secondary education: Young Tibetans’ prospects are very limited. Those who are capable of pursuing post-secondary studies will have a much better chance of finding decent employment. For this sponsorship category, the donation will also be used to cover the room and board fees of the sponsored student outside of the BCH. The amounts required vary according to the chosen school and program. Below you will find examples of the graduate studies our students wish to enroll in, and their respective total fees for one year (tuition, accommodation, food):
Nursing – 1000 USD or 800 euros
BHC Nursing – 2000 USD or 1600 euros
Business Administration – 2000 USD or 1600 euros
Bachelor’s of Arts – 1120 USD or 950 euros
